Fungi Foundation proposes inclusion of Fungi in Chile’s new Constitution.

Within the process of creating a new Constitution in Chile, the Fungi Foundation legally requests the recognition of the Fungi kingdom on an equal footing to the kingdoms Plantae and Animalia, and proposes an integrated management system for the funga of Chile. The initiative was proposed along with the constituent Constanza San Juan.

This is the first time in the history of a country that the recognition of the importance of the Fungi kingdom is requested by entering a legislation initiative in its Constitution.

The next step for this legislation initiative is the presentation and eventual approval in the Convention's Environment Committee. If passed, it will go directly to a vote in the plenary of the Convention where a quorum of ⅔ must be met in order to become part of the draft of the Constitution.

The 3F Initiative is jointly led by the Fungi Foundation and academics from the New York University School of Law as well as the Society for the Protection of Underground Networks (SPUN).
