In the rainforests of Borneo, researchers have identified a newly described fungal ‘hyperparasite’ called Pleurocordyceps cornusynnemata. Rather than infecting an insect directly, it parasitizes the zombie-ant fungus (Ophiocordyceps) after it’s already infected its host.

These newly documented fungi hold potential for developing next-generation antimicrobial drugs and serving as natural biocontrol agents against agricultural pests.
