WVU student discovers long-awaited mystery fungus sought by LSD’s inventor
WVU student Corinne Hazel has discovered a new fungus, Periglandula clandestina, hiding in morning glory seeds. It produces ergot alkaloids, psychoactive compounds that inspired LSD and are being explored for treating depression, PTSD, and more.
This breakthrough honors Albert Hofmann’s original idea and opens the door to new therapeutic research.
