Amadou

Hi Myconauts

Another great article on the uniqueness of Amadou, Fomes fomentarius, which my well known hat is made from.

Amadou is useful as

In Ancient times:

1) making hats or garments

2) fire starter & ember carrying mushroom. Otzi, the IceMan, had it tethered to his right side. Beekeepers use it to smoke bee hives. In Napoleonic times, amadou used it as a fuse for igniting gunpowder

In Modern Times

3) great as a substitute building, insulation and packaging material

4) extracts of mycelium reduces viruses in bees

What about future uses?

This is why, I believe, our ancestors chose certain species. There is a multiplicity of benefits.

Cheers

Paul
