Working with NASA grant recipients Trans Astronautica Corporation led by Jane Shevstov, and in collaboration with Paul Stamets and the talented Fungi Perfecti R&D team. The first objective is to identify fungal species for experimental use on simulated asteroid material, followed by an assessment of their soil production rates and cultivation parameters. Secondly, the working group will address different approaches for performing the breakdown of asteroid regolith by fungi in space. The ultimate goal is to select mycobiomes which will be foundational for selecting guilds of microorganisms for creating healthy soil matrices enabling life support biospheres in the exploration of Space.
